Chicken Tikka Masala with drumsticks is a family favorite of mine. It’s just about the only way my kids will eat drumsticks now a days. We are eating our favorite restaurant recipes at home more during the colder months, and this dish is most requested!
This is a warm and hearty meal that I like to serve over rice, and garnish with cilantro.
Ingredients
Let’s start with what you’re going to need to achieve this family favorite meal. Full disclaimer…I’m not a chef, but a mom of 3, and this is my adaptation Chicken Tikka Masala.
The first thing you want to do is marinate your drumsticks. I like to prepare and marinate the drumsticks in a
large mixing bowl, first thing in the morning. I let them sit in the fridge for 6-8 hours, until I’m ready to cook dinner.

Directions for Chicken Tikka Masala with Drumsticks
Pat the drumsticks dry with paper towels. Place drumsticks & marinade ingredients in a large ziplock bag or mixing bowl. Shake to coat chicken pieces. Marinate for half an hour at room temperature or up to overnight in the refrigerator.
Preheat oven to 400F. Place drumsticks on a baking pan & bake for 40 minutes.
While the chicken is baking, sauté onion, garlic, and ginger in the butter for about 4 to 5 minutes on medium heat.
Add the tomato paste and all the spices into the pan, cooking for an additional 3 to 4 minutes. The tomato paste should become a deep red color. If the mixture begins to stick to the pan, add a tablespoon of broth.
Pour the can of diced tomatoes into the pan stir close it and cook for 15 minutes. Start the mixture every few minutes. I also like to add fresh cut tomatoes to the sauce.
Take the sauce off the heat, incorporate the broth, and blend until it becomes smooth and creamy. To save time, you can also opt for store-bought tikka masala sauce available nationwide.
Return sauce to the pan on medium low heat add the chicken pieces and heavy cream to the pan and simmer for 5 to 7 more minutes.
Serve the dish in a bowl alongside steamed rice and garnish it with cilantro.
